Description

The project consisted of the demolition of the existing buildings and construction of a 600sqm precast, structural steel and core filled blockwork office facility with external works and landscaping.  The office fitout included feature joinery, toilet partitions, high security doors and shutters, access control and security, loose furniture and desk installation as well as a feature timber fence using recycled Moonta Bay jetty timbers.

The project required civil remediation of 1200 tonnes of contaminated soil including high level contaminated soil, Level 1 engineering supervision of re-compaction and testing from EPA which included installation of ground wells. Soil remediation was carefully managed and reported to the high satisfaction of DPTI. Demolition included removal of documented and latent asbestos as well as hand jackhammering boundary footings.

The site had four Regulated Trees that required Tree Protection Zones and hand digging, these trees were reported by the project arborist to have improved in health at conclusion of construction.

Palumbo’s safety procedures and culture were highlighted during DPTI safety inspections and was recognised internally by DPTI. The site was located in a busy location with high exposure and was of a high profile nature with political interest. Handover was coordinated with client installations and the project was completed weeks ahead of schedule.
